Local Area / Things To Do

Lane End Cottage is located 3 miles from the picturesque market town of Holmfirth with its large offering of gift shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes and supermarkets. Throughout the year annual festivals are held including a Folk, Beer, Food & Drink and Art & Film Festivals. It is home to the Picturedrome set in the heart of the town where you can see many bands and artists - past headline acts include Sophie Ellis Bextor, KT Tunstall, Bastille & Ocean Colour Scene to name a few. It is also home to Bamforth & Co which started in 1870, the creator of silent films and "Cheeky Seaside Postcards".

Holmfirth was made famous for the long standing TV Sitcom 'Last Of the Summer Wine' which was filmed in the centre and surrounding villages from 1973 - 2010. A regular tour bus operates from the church yard in the center of the town and is well worth a ride around showing you the popular film set locations, even if you're not familiar with the TV Show, it incorporates some of the stunning scenery Holmfirth has to offer.

Ahead of your stay, I will email across a welcome pack giving you more information on some of the local eateries, top attractions and local walks.

Cycling

There are many local Holmfirth cycle routes and tow paths but if you fancy a real challenge, why not climb to the top of Holme Moss Summit, 524m above sea level! It was the second stage in The Tour de France in July 2014. When you reach the top you will see one of Ashley Jackson's projects "Framing the Landscape" a perfect place for a celebratory selfie!

Walks

There are all terrains on offer here in Holmfirth and the Holme Valley including a great selection of accessible / push chair friendly walks and some stunning reservoir circulars - Digley, Yateholme and Holme Styes to name a few. The cottage is also at the foot of the peak district with Langsett and Castleton just a short scenic drive away.
